As of Thursday morning...

We didn't have the greatest if days yesterday. There's still a lot of fluid compressing her belly and what not. Nick did talk to the nurses this morning and they did say they took off some fluid through dialysis, actually they were taking more than they thought and mom's bp was supporting itself with less pressers. That's decent news. I just hate the emotional rollercoasterof it all. Good news, then not so good, etc. The head doctor said there's a slight chance there may be an infection in her belly that's causing the fluid to stick around, so we consented to have him do a CAT scan to check it out. Sort risky since they have to transport her on the vent and dialysis, but she made it to xray to get the dialysis put in, so I'm hopeful this will be just as successful. That's about it for now. Thanks to all who have started sending cards and flowers. We aren't out of the woods yet, but we continue to press on! Thanks so much.

Kate

  1. Kate,
Prayer is powerful and there are so many people praying for your mom. We will pray hard for her, the doctors and nurses, you, Nick and the rest of your family. Please give your mom a squeeze from us, tell her we are proud of her strength, and to earn all the extra credit point she can!
    Love to you all,
Tim, Kate, Calvin and Maggie Ruffini

  3. Thanks for the blog/updates! Your mom was one of my favorite teachers and even though I am getting old I remember her with GREAT fondness and GREAT memories. I too have you all in my thoughts and prayers! I have been in a very similar situation with my husband back in '04 as he had Crohn's as well, the doctors are all great and God has them all in the palm of his hand. The power of prayer is a powerful thing, I truly don't know where I would be without it. The last 8 months have been the most difficult and NOT something I ever thought I would be dealing with (see my Facebook, but I am sure you know what I am talking about) It is my pleasure to think and pray for and with everyone else, it will help me to heal too. You have a lot of people pulling for you all, hang in there and we will keep you lifted up in prayer
    Love,

  4. Dear Kate and Nick,
I am so sorry to hear of your Mother's illness. She was one of my favorite teachers and is a very special woman. Over the years, I have fondly told stories of how 'Miss Wrege' (it was 1971-72) taught me Spanish, how to play the folk guitar, all about Shakespeare, and how she would sing wonderful 60's folk songs to her class. She was truly a gifted teacher and is a strong woman. She will get through this and she is blessed to have the two of you taking such good care of her. Please let her know that I am thinking of her and sending hugs and prayers her way. Please keep us all updated as best you can. Sincerely, Laura Fisher Thayer
